Revisiting a Childhood Favorite | Green Angel by Alice Hoffman

I have had this copy of Green Angel since 6th grade when I bought it at the Scholastic book fair at school. It was one of my favorite books as a child and I still consider it so. I decided to give it a re-read because I’ve been wanting to for a while now. It’s been years since I’ve read it and so far it still holds up. Alice Hoffman is a beautiful writer and writes such unique stories.

Green Angel is the tale of a young girl named Green who has an extraordinary talent for gardening. One day her family goes into town, leaving her behind, where there is a terrible fire, and her family does not return home. This is a story of grief and how someone can lose themselves in it.

It’s a magical realism story and it’s beautiful. It’s very short which is also great. There is a sequel to the story called Green Witch that I did read, but I don’t remember anything about it. I may have to revisit that one at some point as well.

Happy reading!
